Thorium Mod Overview

Beginner 10 min — 2000+ items, 11 bosses, Healer and Bard classes. A major content expansion for Terraria.

Overview

The Thorium Mod is one of the largest and most polished content mods for Terraria, adding over 2,000 items, 11 new bosses, 2 new classes (Healer and Bard), new biomes, and new NPCs. It's designed to integrate seamlessly with vanilla Terraria's progression.

Unlike Calamity which overhauls the game, Thorium extends it — the vanilla boss progression remains intact with Thorium bosses slotted in between.

New Classes

Healer — A support class focused on healing allies and providing buffs. Healers use radiant weapons that deal damage while simultaneously healing nearby players. Healing generates 'bonus healing' stacks that enhance your abilities. Essential for multiplayer.

Bard — A support/DPS hybrid that uses musical instruments as weapons. Bard weapons generate 'inspiration' charges that provide empowerments (buffs) to nearby allies. Different instruments provide different empowerments — wind instruments might give speed, percussion gives defense.

Boss Progression

Thorium adds 11 bosses that fit into vanilla progression:

  • The Grand Thunder Bird — pre-Eye of Cthulhu
  • Queen Jellyfish — pre-Skeletron, ocean boss
  • Viscount — pre-WoF, bat-themed cavern boss
  • Grand Thunder Bird (rematch) — post-WoF
  • Buried Champion — early Hardmode underground
  • Star Scouter — space boss, post-mechanical
  • Borean Strider — Ice biome, post-Plantera
  • Fallen Beholder — post-Golem
  • Lich — post-Lunatic Cultist
  • Abyssion — ocean depths, endgame
  • Ragnarök (The Primordials) — post-Moon Lord, final boss

Key Items and Weapons

  • Radiant weapons (Healer): Life Surge Staff, Archangel's Heart
  • Symphonic weapons (Bard): The Maw, Epic Mouthpiece, Terranort
  • Thorium-tier ore and bars (crafted from new ores)
  • Aquatic Depths loot (underwater dungeon)
  • Life Quartz (Healer upgrade material)

New Biomes and Structures

  • Aquatic Depths — an underwater dungeon with unique enemies and loot
  • Blood Chamber — Crimson-themed structure
  • New dungeon rooms and chests integrated into vanilla generation

Installation

Install through tModLoader's Workshop:

  • Launch tModLoader
  • Workshop → Download Mods → Search 'Thorium'
  • Download and enable in the Mods menu
  • Create a new world to generate Thorium content

Compatibility

Thorium is compatible with most mods including Calamity, though playing both together makes the game very content-heavy. If combining with Calamity, expect the progression to feel less balanced as neither mod was designed around the other's content.
