Preparation
The Wall of Flesh is summoned by throwing a Guide Voodoo Doll into lava while in the Underworld. The Guide will die and the WoF spawns.
- You NEED a long flat bridge in the Underworld (at least 500 blocks)
- Use platforms, ash blocks, or obsidian for the bridge
- Place campfires and heart lanterns along the bridge every 50 blocks
- Build the bridge at lava level — not too high, not too low
Arena Building
The bridge is your arena. Key tips:
- Use wood platforms or solid blocks — either works
- Clear obstacles above the bridge for movement
- Place a Bast Statue if you have one (defense buff)
- Consider placing Star in a Bottle for mage players
- Pre-place a bed near the bridge start for spawn point
Recommended Gear
- Melee: Night's Edge, Molten Armor, Shield of Cthulhu
- Ranged: Minishark or Phoenix Blaster, Necro Armor, lots of ammo (Silver bullets or Meteor Shot)
- Mage: Demon Scythe or Water Bolt, Jungle/Meteor Armor
- Summoner: Imp Staff, Obsidian or Bee Armor
- Critical: Spectre Boots + Shield of Cthulhu for mobility
Attack Patterns
- The Hungry: Mouths on extending tongues that charge you — kill them for health drops
- Leeches: Spawned periodically, small worm enemies
- Laser Eyes: The WoF's eyes fire lasers — frequency increases at low HP
- Speed Increase: WoF moves faster as HP decreases — this is the main danger
The fight is a DPS race — the wall moves toward you and you must kill it before it pushes you to the world edge or overwhelms you with speed.
Strategy
- RUN. Keep moving away from the WoF while shooting backward
- Kill the Hungry early — they drop hearts and make dodging lasers easier
- Focus damage on ONE eye (they share the HP pool but each has its own defense)
- Beelining in one direction is key — don't reverse, you'll get caught
- At low HP the wall is FAST — save any damage buffs for the final phase
- If you fall in lava, use an Obsidian Skin potion
What Happens After
Defeating the WoF triggers Hardmode:
- The world gets a V-shaped stripe of Hallow and Corruption/Crimson
- New, much harder enemies spawn everywhere
- Three new ores become available (smash Demon/Crimson Altars)
- The Mechanical Bosses can now spawn
- Your next priorities: wings, new armor, Hardmode weapons
First Things to Do in Hardmode
- Get Wings immediately (Leaf Wings from Witch Doctor at night in Jungle, or craft Angel/Demon Wings)
- Break 3+ Demon/Crimson Altars for new ores
- Farm Souls of Light and Souls of Night for key of light/night mimics
- Dig quarantine trenches to slow evil biome spread
- Upgrade your pickaxe to mine new ores
