What is the Rogue Class
The Rogue class is Calamity's addition to Terraria's class system. It uses thrown weapons — knives, boomerangs, javelins, and explosives — with a unique stealth mechanic. Standing still or moving slowly builds stealth, which empowers your next attack.
Rogue fills the gap between melee and ranged, offering high burst damage with stealth strikes while requiring positioning and timing.
Stealth Mechanic
Stealth is the defining mechanic:
- Standing still or walking slowly fills the stealth meter
- Full stealth empowers your next thrown weapon with a 'stealth strike' — enhanced damage, effects, or behavior
- Each weapon has a unique stealth strike effect
- Rogue armor sets increase stealth generation speed and strike damage
- Movement, jumping, and attacking reset stealth buildup
Learning when to pause and build stealth vs when to keep throwing is the core skill of Rogue gameplay.
Early Game (Pre-Hardmode)
Starting weapons and gear:
- Throwing Knives, Shurikens — basic thrown items from vanilla
- Seashell Boomerang — Victide bars, solid early option
- Crystalline — desert boss drop, good DPS
- Wulfrum Armor → Victide Armor → Aerospec Armor
- Enchanted Axe — from enchanted sword shrines, rare but strong
Hardmode Progression
- Titan Heart Armor — Aquatic Scourge materials, big stealth boost
- Plague Reaper Armor — Plaguebringer Goliath, excellent mid-Hardmode set
- Scarlet Devil — Calamitas Clone drop, strong javelin
- Ballistic Poison Bomb — Ravager drop, AoE stealth strike
- Celestial Reaper Armor — post-Lunatic Cultist
Post-Moon Lord
- Bloodflare Armor → Auric Tesla Armor
- Nanoblack Reaper — Providence drop, one of the best rogue weapons
- Scarlet Devil (upgraded) — SCal drop
- Executioner's Blade — Devourer of Gods, insane stealth strike
- Supernova — Yharon drop
Best Accessories
- Raider's Talisman — increases stealth strike damage
- Coin of Deceit — stealth generation buff
- Nanotech — endgame accessory, massive rogue boosts
- Vampire Techno Frog — Providence, great utility
Rogue vs Other Classes
Rogue excels at burst damage through stealth strikes but has lower sustained DPS than Ranged or Mage. It's the best class for players who like methodical, hit-and-run combat. Bosses with multiple phases or downtime between attacks are ideal for Rogue. Fast bosses with constant movement (like Supreme Calamitas) are harder.
Tips
- Build stealth before boss fights start
- Learn each weapon's stealth strike — some are dramatically better than normal throws
- Stealth armor bonuses are multiplicative — prioritize stealth generation stats
- Use movement accessories to reposition quickly between stealth builds
